Internet Mapping and Location Search Day

Hello All:

Today your mission is to complete the Internet Mapping and Location Search Worksheet.  Please submit your answers as an email to me.  I should have your quizzes from last week completed and returned to you by tomorrow.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Copy and Paste the Bold Text into an email.  Please use Google Earth, or Google Maps / Mapquest to complete the following questions:

The purpose of this project is to use Mapping and Location Software to locate University City High School and identify surrounding sites of interest.  Students will need to identify locations, map directions, and mark sites of interest.

1.      What are the streets that border University City High School?

2.      Locate five (5)  Fast Food Restaurants Near UCHS:

(1 each: Pizza, McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell, and 2 Random Ones)

3.      Identify two (2) Museums within 5 miles of UCHS:

4.      Identify 4 Septa Bus Stops and 3 Subway Stops close to UCHS:

5.      Get directions to drive from UCHS to Independence Hall then to Penn’s Landing, and finally to the Phillies Baseball Park for a fun day with a date:

Extra Credit:  You are the owner of a new fast food restaurant called “WienerDog”.  You want to locate it within 20 blocks of UCHS.  Using mapping software and Google Earth, select a site near the school that is not within 3 blocks of a competing fast food store.  You might also want to be close to transportation.  You must also identify the route from a major highway that delivery trucks will use.  You may build on any vacant lot or parking lot you find, but you must not build anywhere where there are existing buildings.  What is your new address?

Google Earth Travelogue Presentation Day!!

Hello Everyone!!

Today you will be presenting your team's information on the Google Earth Travelogue Project.  We will proceed after journal entries are completed.  The order for presentations will be 4, 2, 5, 1 ,3.  You must present from the front of the room.  Everyone on your team must present some of the information.  You do not need any additional visual aides if you do not want to create them.  Please click on the Presentation Evaluation FORM below after each presentation to rate each team's performance.  Additionally, when your team is finished presenting, please click on the Team Evaluation Report FORM to comment on your performance.

Twitter MicroBlogs and You!! Google Earth Project I

Today we are discussing the difference between a blog and a microblog.  We will view a video (Click Link To See Video) and discuss how Twitter is different from Facebook.

Please go to Twitter and set up an account.  Then share the account name with me by emailing it to me at hscribneruchs@gmail.com.

Finally, try to get everyone in the class connected to your account.  Find them and add them to your following list, and follow them as well.

Next, you will be split into teams and begin work on our first Google Earth Project.  Your team's job is to identify a foreign (outside the United States) that I might be interested in visiting.  You must present, as a team, a travelogue of the city (There will be prizes) on Monday.  You must present, in as much detail as possible, the Location, Population, Government Information (Travel Restrictions, Visa's, Etc.), Transportation (Getting There and Getting Around While There), Places To Stay, Sight To See And Events, Restaurants, Clubs, or Anything Else That Might Be Fun.  Your team presentation is graded, and you will evaluate everyone on the team's effort and write a short summary/review.
