Grocery Day

Hello Everyone,

Please use the handout to plan your menu for a week.  I would like you to plan at least 2 dinners for 2 and a family dinner (6 people or more) for the weekend sometime.  It can be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but include anything you would normally serve.  Once your menu is complete, make a grocery list.  In addition to groceries, there is a list of other items (BELOW) that you will need to keep at your home.  Detergent, soap, etc.  You may also include any items you might actually use regularly to your shopping list.  Finally, go to the website below and price everything you will need.  You may need to make substitutions, but you will get a good general idea of prices for your weekly shopping trip.  You will enter these figures on your monthly budget when you are finished as actual costs.

https://shop.acmemarkets.com/store/?market=10002

Additional Items to buy:

Laundry Detergent, Soap, Shampoo, Deodorant, a Mop, All-Purpose Cleaner, Light Bulbs, Dish Soap, Soda (ie. Coca Cola, Pepsi, etc.),  Tylenol, Band-Aids, Cold Medicine, and a Bucket.

Good Luck,
Mr. S

Personal Family Budget

Good Morning,

Please go to the link below and familiarize yourself with the document:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ArXPDlbP92xbdENrVFJ2VXZ0VHZSdnpQUWZCaVkzMmc&hl=en

Download the document to Excel and Save It.  Each Day you will have to save changes and email it to yourself.  You can avoid emailing it by saving to a flash drive.  THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT YOUR COPY WILL STAY ON THE SYSTEM YOU ARE WORKING ON HERE IN CLASS.  Final budgets will be due Friday at the end of class.

On the first page you will notice, it is a template for a family budget.  Today you will be entering your basic startup information.  You have a job in the Philadelphia Area.  The job cards are being distributed.  You must enter your information, find housing near your job, work out transportation, utilities and other information.  Over the next few days you will get changes to your plan and have to adjust your budget to reflect the changes.  Final budgets will be graded.  Please complete the changes and email the final budgets to me on time (Friday).

Grading is as follows:     Initial Budget Setup =   30 points
                                     Changes Completed =  30 points
                                     Final Presentation =      40 points

Final Presentations will need to include explanations to the class of where you live, what you spent money on, and how you saved and can tell the difference between expenses and discretionary income.

Good Luck!!
