MS VISIO2003 Introduction Week!!

Good Afternoon Business Technology Classes/Interns:

Welcome to the first day of MS Visio 2003.  This is an design platform that will allow you a use a great deal of powerful tools to create projects, layouts, and graphical designs.  It is a basic design program with a ton of bells and whistles and seamlessly interacts with the rest of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs we have already worked with.  I am including a link to a basic instruction site online from the University of Texas.  It is a handy site if you want to go through a complete tutorial.

http://www.ischool.utexas.edu/technology/tutorials/office/visio/

Tomorrow we will be learning how to use this program to ultimately design and price a construction/remodeling project.  Today you will be able to get started on your own, looking around the program and checking out some of the templates.  Please go through the first couple of pages on the training site listed above to get started.  I would like you to use today's class to finish you COMICLIFE assignment first, then start into the Visio program.

This site is the official Microsoft link for educational shapes in Visio.  You can use any of them in your math or science classes to show angles, shapes, 3d shapes and a whole lot more!!

Thanks for such a good response from the MyWebspiration assignments and the Comic Book Pages!!

ComicLife Biography Project

Ok Everyone,

Glad to hear we had a good time yesterday working with Blabberize and byfunky.com!!  Today you will choose an African-American Historical figure from my list and create a 1-2 page comic book page about that person's biography.  Include where they are from, what significant contributions they have made, and why they are a prominent historical figure.  You must collect pictures to go with your story and then use ComicLife to create the comic book pages.  We will work on one together in class today and your story is due by the end of class tomorrow.

You will be graded on the following basis:

3points - Accuracy of Historical Facts
2points - Grammar and Spelling
2points - Creativity and Layout
3points - Turning it in completely and on time.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!  Final Projects should be submitted in JPEG format by emailing me at my school address.  I will compile them and you will see them all Monday during class. I will also require a separate 1 page, 12-font, double spaced paper from you that will be about some of the facts about 2-3 other figures from the presentation Monday.  Get to work!!

City Exploration Collaborative Project (WEBSPIRATION)

Good Afternoon:

Over the next two days you will create a web for a city in the United States.  I have shared this document with everyone that is currently on the Favorite Color document.  If you have not signed up for an account on mywebspiration.com you will not be able to complete the assignment. Click on the picture to the right to see my example.  You will be given a note card today with your city on it.  You  will be responsible for creating an identical web to the one described and linking it to the US Symbol in the middle.  Please include the following data:

City Facts:  Year Founded, Longitude, Latitude, Population, Area, Time Zone, and Mayor's Name.
Also include major industries, professional sports teams, colleges, historical places, museums, and weather information.  Each place you list will need to have a link to the website that corresponds to it.  Weather can link to any local news station, but other links must be the official sites for those places, not some other site or advertisement.  You can select all of my formatting, hit copy, paste to a blank document and work from it if you like, but you must repaste your changes into the document.  You must also work on your web in a separate document while you are assembling it and paste the final layout into our collaborative document.  If you have any questions, just ask or email me a question.  This project is worth 10 points toward your Marking Period grade.  Good Luck!!  Mr. S

MyWebspiration Favorite Color

Today we will be working on collaborating together.  While you are finishing your MyWeb project from yesterday, please email me your MyWebspiration username and I will be able to share the document "favorite color".  You can then add your personal bubble, change it to your favorite color, and add your name.  Be sure to link it to the center bubble and you are done.

Turn in your MyWeb project by downloading your finished project to MS Word and email it to me at hscribneruchs@gmail.com.

MyWebspiration Basic Training

This is an easy, fun way to collaborate online and organize projects, papers, or anything else you need to outline or create a plan for.

Start by going to the website:  http://mywebspiration.com
Sign Up for a free account and create your first document.  Your MyWeb should look similiar to the picture to the left.  4 Areas surrounding your name with 3 Past (Below), 3 Present (Right), 3 Future (Top), and 3 Skills/Talents (Left).  Make sure each section is a different color, and they are linked similiarly to my example to your center bubble.  Each section should be an experience or something you are involved in, or may want to do in your future.  Use this assignment to "play" with all of the tools and techniques in this software.  I want you to feel comfortable creating projects and ultimately collaborating on them together electronically.  Have Fun!!  Mr. S
